Toitu te Tiriti is a campaign centred in Te Ao Māori and is part of PPTA’s ongoing commitment to upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi. It seeks to:
- Oppose the Treaty Principles Bill and ultimately see it defeated.
- Oppose removal of reference to Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi in other legislation.
- Retain reference to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the education sector’s guiding documents such as the NZC and the NELP.
- Oppose the removal of reference to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the Professional Standards, and retain access to PLD for teachers’ to improve their cultural and language skills.
- Successfully negotiate claims relating to cultural and language expertise in the STCA negotiations according to the members wishes.
- Build union cultural capacity.
