Space and Time for All our Kids: PPTA Talk

PPTA's Unmet Need Conference, Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw — Social Scientist, Director of Narrative at The Workshop, and parent of two disabled children — sets out a vision for an education system built on respect, curiosity and diverse talent, rather than achievement and "human capital."

She unpacks the cognitive science of framing: why facts alone don't shift minds, how dominant stories about education and disability get reinforced, and why myth-busting can backfire. She closes with four practical steps for advocates and teachers: stop repeating the old story, lead with values, get concrete about solutions, and repeat the message together, consistently, over time.
