(October 2009) This paper summarises the main contribution School Counsellors make in developing the five key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum in the students they counsel. The material presented arose from a workshop led by Colin Hughes with a group of school counsellors from the Eastern Bay of Plenty. It was then organised and summarised by Colin Hughes and Tracey Hennessy, both counsellors at Trident High School in Whakatane.
(May 2009) This resource contains: Worksheets to accompany the Powerpoint presentation that has been developed. Information and discussion points about a Guidance Counsellor project using the NZ Curriculum. A facilitator kit that suggests how to work with these resources has been provided separately. Author/s: Judith Kelleher, Brenda Pomana-Whale
(May 2009) We acknowledge that a half or a whole day out as a school Guidance Counsellor group is precious and there are plenty of things that are important to discuss. Your group will prioritise how they wish to spend their time. Hopefully, this package is flexible enough to fit in with the day’s plans. We think that the NZ Curriculum is the priority for the day but then we wouldn’t have made this resource if we didn’t think so! We believe that school Guidance Counsellors have always worked within the Directions for Learning of the NZ Curriculum because of the very nature of their endeavours. We acknowledge the difficulty in presenting someone else’s work. We thank you for volunteering and invite you to make the material your own so you are comfortable working with it.
