(2008) The basic point to begin from is that all entitlements are weekly entitlements and are intended to produce manageable workloads throughout the year. Teachers are entitled to a maximum of 20 hours teaching (less other non-contacts) each week and in each week they are entitled to an average class size of 26.    The calculations will not meet the STCA requirements if they are done over a term or a year - they will be in breach of the agreement.

(30 August 2011) Average class size calculator. Some timetabling programmes used by schools have a function which calculates average class size in a way that does not meet requirements for STCA purposes and can give an erroneous average. This is most likely where the periods are of varying length. Find the weighted contact time for each class (roll times the number of minutes you have that class each cycle); Add the weighted contact times together; Divide the total by the number of minutes you are timetabled to teach each cycle.
