New teachers conference 2017

The 2017 network of establishing teachers conference is being held at Blue Skies Conference and Training Centre, 12 Williams Street, Kaiapoi, Canterbury on the 18-20 April 2017.

The conference starts at 1pm on Tuesday 18 April and closes at midday on Thursday 20 April.

There is no cost for PPTA members to attend the conference. Non-members are welcome, at a cost of $500.

Food for three days and shared accommodation for two nights is provided. Transport to and from the conference is the responsibility of the attendee. Your school, PPTA branch or region may be willing to assist with funding, please contact them directly.

Tuesday 18th April

1pm Registrations open

2pm Pōwhiri

2.30pm Opening address
Jack Boyle, PPTA President

3pm Afternoon tea

3.30pm Political panel with Education spokespeople from the political parties

4.30pm Launch the Promise to New Teachers

7pm Dinner at venue, followed by the option of drinks at CBK (local)

Wednesday 19th April

9am Workshop session A

10.15am Morning tea

10.45am Workshop session B

12pm Lunch

1pm Panel: Flexible learning spaces

3pm Visit to Haeata Community Campus

4.30pm Day’s business concludes. Free time in Christchurch

6.30pm Dinner at restaurant TBC

Thursday 20th April

9am Keynote: Rose Hipkins – NCEA in Context
Followed by a workshop exploring the potential of NCEA

10.30am Closing Address
Austen Pageau, PPTA Executive member responsible for Establishing Teachers

11am Poroporoaki

11.30am Transport back to either city centre or airport


The workshop session schedule is still being finalised but will include:

• Making schools inclusive for LGBTIQ+ students (and staff)
